WELCOME TO MY PORTFOLIO

ABOUT ME

My name is Sam Stokes, a 23-year-old Level Designer. After graduating in August 2025 from Bow Valley College with an Advanced Game Development diploma, I began working on an unreleased title scheduled to launch in the near future with Shifty Eye Games. Level design is my core passion, and I am committed to continually growing my skills through iteration, collaboration, and learning at every stage of development.

Level Design

For our capstone project, our team was given 12 weeks to develop and ship a complete game, which is now available on Steam. The current phase of development is focused on refinement addressing issues, improving balance, and expanding content through new game modes, levels, and weapons.

On this project, I served as the Level Designer, creating initial 2D level sketches, implementing and greyboxing levels in-engine, and iterating through frequent testing to ensure strong gameplay flow, variety, and an engaging, fun player experience.

World Building/Prop Placement

Below are my experiments with Asset placement using Unreal Engine - None of there assets were made by me.

One of my favorite aspects of game development is the meticulous process of placing props to craft immersive, story rich environments all brought to life using Unreal Engine. As a level designer, I thrive on the challenge of using environmental storytelling to subtly guide players, evoke emotion, and enhance gameplay flow. Whether it’s arranging debris to hint at past events or strategically placing lighting fixtures to create mood and focus, every prop I position serves a purpose. Unreal Engine’s powerful toolset allows me to iterate quickly, experiment with atmosphere, and achieve a high level of visual fidelity that truly draws players into the world.

Fortnite Creative

Using the Fortnite Unreal Editor, I have created and published my own map, titled Maze Escape Room. I am also currently working on several other maps, which are set for release in the near future. While these projects are independent of my school work, they provide me with an opportunity to explore my creativity and push the boundaries of my design skills.
